LA was great as always... met up with tons of talented people. The Flux screening at the Hammer Museum of PSST! Pass It On 3 was crampacked! Went up on stage after the show with Bran Doughtery-Johnson and Brian Gossett to rock a live exquisite corpse which was good times and met up with the Radical Friend crew afterward.

Ok so recently I finished up a clip that I was luckily invited to direct for the new season of Yo Gabba Gabba. Equally lucky, I was invited to show the Morcheeba "Enjoy The Ride" and Jakob Dylan "Evil Is Alive And Well" videos at the San Francisco International Animation Festival! Gene Deitch is even gonna be there, and unfortunately I have to miss it.

I'm missing it though for a good reason. Over the next few weeks I have to concentrate on my upcoming (first!) solo art show at the Grassy Knoll Gallery in Portland, OR.

The good Ward Jenkins is currently showing at the gallery so be sure to check him out, and here are some unfinished previews to my show "Culture Jelly"...

Morcheeba graciously asked me back to direct their second single off the Dive Deep album. Luckily I had the grand talents of Eric Kilkenny, Saxton Moore and Darin Bendall lending their animation wizardry as well as a generous tech hand from Sir Todd Schott. Of course Dan Kreeger and posse over at One Small Step were, as always, the finest a production company can be.

In other news, just started up a new music video and tied up the end for the Animation Show. Did I ever tell you that Eric Kilkenny and Gene Blakefield were a big part of the Animation Show's opener piece? I'm truly an ass. These guys animate circles around me.

So I took everyone's advice and hit both the LA Film Fest and Platform in Portland. It was a huge time. Wish I could've hooked up with even more people, but the list of people I did meet up with is a long one. Both events are definitely something to check out. Thanks for the advice, fine people of the web.

Anyhow, a few months back I finished up some character design for Nicktoons with a company called Interspectacular in NYC. Since then, they handed the designs and their concepts to an animation crew to slave away for a few months. Looks like they finished up now though, so I'll post up some of the design evolution.

Ok so this is mostly a pic blog, right? However since I've been slow on the posting I thought I'd share some news and such.

Right now, I'm tying up production on my second piece for Yo Gabba Gabba and beginning my third up. It's been a fun trip. And despite my sparse blog postings, I'm drawing all the time. Just seems it's forever something I can't share yet. I recently did some character designs for Nicktoons and Jetix, rocked a few shirt & sweater designs for Gama-Go's fall line and boarded some new potential spots for the Nicorette campaign.

In other news, the Los Angeles Film Festival has graciously selected the M Ward video Eric David Johnson and I directed into their program. The ultradope Dublab show has included my Coldcut, Paul Brill and M Ward videos in their lineup, and Platform invited War Photographer into their "Aurally Visual" showcase. Freshness!

What's weird though is the timing of the LAFF and Platform. Both of these shows are playing within days of each other. I had originally planned on only attending the LAFF, but as the time grows nearer I wonder if I shouldn't just make the leap and attend both? What would you do, digibrethren? I gotta make a call on that one quick.

Ok so that's that. Much more in the mix that I can't jinx yet, but not a whole bunch of complaints from here. Just wish I'd get my head in gear and focus on some more personal work.

Speaking of which... my 40 oz piece is still up for grabs if anyone's interested. Give me or Mike G a shout, whydon'tcha?

"Shady Characters" is an art show that opens Friday, July 28th, at the 'Live with Animals' Gallery (210 Kent Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11211; entrance to the gallery on Metropolitan). I ended up doing an acyrlic piece which is always the most difficult for me. There's some terrible tangents that formed and there's some things I still feel weird about but it's done and on its way.

LA was nothing short of phenomenal. Thanks to everyone for making it such a excellent experience. I met a ton of supertalents that inspire me everyday.

Last week I also had the opportunity to participate in an art show for Family Guy in Manhattan. The original title was "Keeblerquest" but I think due to copyrights "Cookiequest" was used instead. The painting is pretty reminiscent of one my past pieces, but somehow it felt right. Traditional work is always intimidating but fun to work with. This was the biggest gouache piece I'd ever worked on.

Anyhow, enough blabbing from me. I got a pile of stuff to work on now.

Oh on a related note... I'll be taking off to the LA Film Festival where they'll be showing the War Photographer video. Gonna try and see as many friends as possible while I'm back on ze Left Coast.

The Roll Yer Own show was greatness. Definitely reminds me of the shows 911 Media Arts Center throw in Seattle. Something fun about seeing all this work that goes largely unseen. Of course I met the very talented and super friendly Ward Jenkins. I tried to absorb as much talent energy as I could when I shook his hand. Also met a gaggle of the great guys from the Harvey Birdman show. I'm terrible at remembering names, but the good sir Steve Vitale let me know that Brian de Tagyos, Darrell Phillips, Bryan Capik, Adam Fuchs, Dan Bodinof, and Nate Pratt were all there and I know I met most if not all.

Shamefully, I'm a face guy not a name guy. It was great meeting all you talented muthas regardless!

Of course I hooked up with my old schoolmates Chris Fox (animator on War Photographer) and Steve Eidson. Two goodfellas that are mighty powerful with the pencil too. Always a pleasure, gents.

The whole thing went well. Glad to have participated. Hope I can stick around longer next time and take some studio tours.

Thanks to Charles Judson from CinemATL.com for snapping the suave pic posted above. Sounds like those kids are doing some good things over there, too.

On another note, I'll be attending the Roll Yer Own film festival in Atlanta this upcoming Tuesday Feb 21st. They're showing "War Photographer" and doing a little Q&A afterward. Should be cool. Swing by and say "wus'happenin'."

Lately I've luckily been busy working on a project with the mighty Neptoon Studios (those kids = ubertalented) so I haven't had much time to share anything. Due to that, I'll post yet another teaser image. This one will hopefully be making a much more official appearance in the very near future unless things drastically change. Nothing much to look at currently, but I think he works well once you see the full context.

Anyhow... for what it's worth, eh?

Ok so now we've got the holidays out of the way. Whew.

So 2005 was great. Thanks to everyone who watched the War Photographer video. It's easily been my most visible work to date. I'm supremely flattered people are responding so well to it in general. Res is mentioning it in their upcoming Jan/Feb issue and the good Sandy Hunter went so far as to name War Photographer "Best video of 2005"! Beyond Res and Pitchfork Media this thing also was included in on Channel Frederator's "Best 5 of '05" and has been springing up on a few other lists as well. Hopefully this means more working on videos in '06. I'm going to do my best to make it happen.

Things have shaken up a little around here at the end of of the year. The biggest news being One Small Step in London is representing me for music video and commercial work in the UK and I couldn't be more excited. They also run an art gallery so I couldn't imagine a better company to be affiliated with.

In the meantime, I'm knee deep in pitch land. I've got three currently on the burner and while it's cool to do, it's not exactly keeping the family fed (yet at least.) If you've got some illustration, animation, character design needs.... give a brutha a shout! Enough with the holidays... I'm ready to work!
